Bible Reading / Trusting God With Your Kids

Day 1: Am I Messing Up My Kids?

Read:

You replay the day in your head, and somehow the only moments that come to mind are the ones you got wrong. It sends you into a spiral of fear—fear that you’re failing at the one thing you know is far too important to fail at: parenting.

Proverbs 22:6 reminds us why parenting matters: "Direct your children onto the right path, and when they are older, they will not leave it." Sometimes it reads like an encouragement. But sometimes it can feel like it's adding to the weight you’re already shouldering.

So, hear two things.

One: the fact that you care this much is proof you're doing better than you think. Be kind to yourself.

Two: you probably didn't get it all right. There were moments you messed up. And there will be more. But God's grace is bigger than your mistakes. Get a clear picture of both—the vastness of his grace and the human-sized reach of your mistakes. Your worst moments pale next to his grace.

God didn’t make a mistake when he gave you your kids. You are the right person to raise them. He didn't get it wrong when he placed them in your hands. And Proverbs 22:6 is true—you do get to help point your kids toward the right path, and that shapes who they become. But it all rests on his grace, not your perfection. You've got this, because God’s got you and your kids.

Pray: God, thank you that your grace is so much bigger than my mistakes. When I replay the ways I got it wrong, remind me that my care for these kids is proof of your work in me. Help me parent from your grace instead of my fear. I trust that you made me their parent on purpose. Amen.
