Hannah's story begins with deep pain. She desperately wanted a child, but year after year she remained unable to conceive. Her pain was made even harder because of the way others treated her. She carried a burden that was both deeply personal and publicly visible.
What makes Hannah remarkable is what she does with her pain. Instead of allowing disappointment to drive her away from God, she brings it directly to him. In the temple, Hannah pours out her heart so honestly that the priest Eli initially thinks she's drunk. Her prayer isn't polished or impressive—it's simply real.
But the most powerful part of Hannah's story comes after God answers her prayer. She gives Samuel back to God. The very thing she prayed for becomes the very thing she surrenders. Hannah understood something we often forget: God's gifts are never meant to replace God himself.
Heart
We all have things we desperately want God to give us—relationships, opportunities, healing, success, answers, or direction. Sometimes the greatest test of faith isn't trusting God when he says no; it's trusting him when he says yes.
Hannah reminds us that blessings become dangerous when they become more important than the one who gave them. A surrendered heart says, “God, thank you for your gifts, but I love you more.”

“God, everything I have belongs to you. Help me receive your gifts with gratitude and hold them with open hands.”
Write down one thing you need to surrender to him.
Pray: God, thank you that you hear every prayer and know every burden. Teach me to trust you with the things I desire most. Help me remember that you're better than any gift you could give me. Give me a heart that holds everything with open hands. Amen.
